This poem is insanely personal to me because I wrote it when I lost my best friend of ten years, my little doggy Candy. She’d been there for me longer than anyone else (other than my family and one of my friends) and even though it’s six months on I still miss her.
Â
Candy my baby, my sister, my friend,
It kills me to think our time has come to an end,
I miss you more than anyone could ever know,
The pain inside I cannot show,
I wish that you were right here with me,
I wish my best friend I could still see,
But I know that this was for the best,
So I wish you well in your eternal rest.
Life’s too short to drink cheap wine,
Life’s too short to take your time,
Life’s too short not to say you care,
Life’s too short not to share.
Life’s too short to look a mess,
Life’s too short to get stressed,
Life’s too short to cry and cry,
Life’s too short to ask why.
Life’s too short to sit and ponder,
Life’s too short to wait and wander,
Life’s too short to care so much,
Life’s too short to give a fuck!
You can’t protect your heart forever,
Believe me girl; it’s now or never,
Trust your heart and don’t deny
the love you can see in his eye,
whenever he sees you and looks your way,
don’t wait for that thing to hear him say,
Jump the gun, do it yourself,
You won’t become another name on The Shelf,
Just believe you can and you will,
Don’t just sit there on the windowsill,
hoping and praying won’t get you anywhere,
Take a chance: if you dare.
That time I spent I can’t get back,
The love we had is what we lack,
The kiss we shared that wasn’t there,
A story told for all to share.
The cliché to have loved and lost,
The beauty covered by a frost,
A picnic in the park,
Romantic; after dark,
A dolphin turned out to be a shark,
A man who has surely left his mark.
